Can you tell us about yourself ?
I am Marika, French designer based between Paris France and Ghent Belgium. I am freelance print designer for trend agency where I making original textile print and pattern. In 2011 I have launched my first collection of decorative cushion. It was a need to express myself with my vision of material, color and print. The cushion was the perfect object to combine all these. Now it is my 3d line and just start to make the 4th one this year.

Describe your day as a maker:
No rules ! I follow my famous "to do list"! Basically, I am doing some trend research, emailing with shops, press and customers. Find solution for the production, making pompom research as well. I Have a coffee break and also working for different freelance contracts where I am making prints and illustration for them. I finish the day with yoga class or running.

When did you know you were a Maker/ Designer?
It's on my spirit. I have always been a creative person. I drew a lot when I was kid and making a lot of handmade workshop. I studied art & craft at school, then fashion. I was always interested in decoration design anyway. It is a luck for me to express myself everyday with my skills.

How did you pick the name of your brand?
I have kept my proper name as designer brand. I wanted to make a deep link between and my product and me. I trust that my brand represent my personnality.

How would you describe your brand?

Marika Giacinti Paris is boldness, glamour and a casual elegance brand for interior decoration. It is a small range of cushion and porcelain which bring spice and light for your interior. It is a perfect graphic finishing too.

What influences your work?
My daily routine, and what my customers requests influence and help me to build the collection. I observe a lot around me to catch and understand the market. These influences can be as whimsical as a chair in an Antwerp antique dealer, the door of a Parisian Haussmann building, a beautiful blanket found at a market in Montmartre, a stroll through the narrow streets of Hampstead Village in London or looking up at the facades of Amsterdam...

Where does your inspiration come from?

Everywhere. The web, the city where I leave, my friends. I catch details everywhere.

How is the creative scene in your city compare to other cities?
I am living between Paris and Gent where the creative scene is huge and full of beautiful designs. It helps really. It is dynamique and keep me on the mood. After these 3 years now I concidere my work integrated in the market.

What’s your creative process?
The design process is an exploratory immersion into coloured paintings, prints and hand drawn patterns. First, I start to create trend mood board with material, color, shapes. I overview inspirations to result from new model. Each item is considered as a piece of art and goes through numerous iterations before the final piece is realized. I collaborates with local artisans in France and Portugal to help me throughout the production process. I am handmade making prints, wool pompoms

Do you have a favorite piece?
I am really fan of my porcelain bottle I make last season and you have on your eshop now. The green color and the soft outline of the shape bring calm to the object.

Can you tell us about your workspace?
My studio is an integrared part to my flat. I am working most of he time with my computer. I also have a space to make hand drawing and painting prints. I love spread my tools allover the desk and the floor when I am working on project. No problem to me to switch with work break. I try to create a comfy athmosphere when it is pleasant to stay all day.

What would you say is your proudest achievement so far?
"I did it" I can be proud to start my own business. To reach customers from all over the world. And I am surprise how many people love my brand. It makes me confident and strong.

Have you got any big plans for 2015 ?
